U. G. Wells's new novel, which Messrs. Benu are to publish, is described as "an entirely new kind of book, which is at onco a first-class novel and the best film scenario that ever taxed the wits of the film industry.". Tho scene is chiefly laid in a small Balkan kingdom.

The death has occurred of Dr. G. H. S. AValpole, Bishop of Edinburgh, author of many theological works. Dr. AValpole, who was born in 1854,' was the father of Mr. Hugh AValpole, novelist. Mr. Hugh AValpole was born in New Zealand in 1884, when his father was the incumbent of St. Mary's Pro-Cathe-dral, Auckland, and warden of St. John's College.
