THREE SLIGHT TREMORS
ARTHUR'S PASS SHAKE
BIG FISSURE FOUND
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post")
.., ' CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. . "There is nothing to be afraid of at Arthur's Pass now," said Mr.• H. F. Skey, of Christchurch Observatory, on his return to Christchurch last night. Mr. Skey has_ spent several days at the Pass examining the ' evidence left by Saturday night's earthquake. He added that there were three minor tremors yesterday, but they were very slight. "We had news to-day" (Thursday), Mr. Skey continued, "that a survey party working on.the ridges at a spot described as being, a little to the west of the function of the Bealey and Waimakariri Rivers had found a large crack which might mark the position of the major fault. The survey party stated that it goes a terrific depth. They dropped stones down into ',he fissure, but could not hear them meet the bott<sm. The assumption drawn from their statements has to be.verified. Dr. Henderson, Director of the Geological Survey Department, is up at the Pass now engaged, upon an investigation of the geological aspect of the earthquake. He is on his own and working from the Otira side over to the Pass. He will investigate the crack at once."
