MR. BROPHY'S RESIGNATION

DUNEDIN, This Day. Wireless messages received from. Commander Byrd in . the : Antarctic make it clear, that Mr. Richard G. Brophy, business manager, will terminate his association with the- expedition at the close of an extended vacation. : At the same time, Commander Byrd authorises Mi: Brophy to make a statement in America somewhat on the following liiiets: "That Mr. Brophy is desirous of re-entering private business in New Zealand, and that the. expedition being at its base and equippedyhis duties aresended after the conclusion of.his preseiit vacation, which he verymuch deserves. At that time .1 will accept his resignation from the expedition. The fact that we are so well equipped in the Antarctic is due largely to ,tho energy, efficiency, and loyalty of Mr. Brophy as business manager during the long and trying period of preparation in New York." ;

Commander Byrd has already confirmed Mr. Biophy's resignation as second in ' command. This had been tendered to the Commander in the An. tarctie by wireless several weeks, ago, because of Mr. Brophy's inability to reach the Antarctic, and to assume the obligation of second in command.
