DAYTONA BEACH, 11th March. Major Segrave set a new world's automobile) speed record to-day of 231.36240 miles an hour, basing the record upon an average of two runs on the course, taking'a four-milo start before entering the mile stretch over which he ran first north and then south, stopping between runs to repack ice in the cooling system and change all his tires and. wheels. Segrave ran at tho low edge of tho course, several times crossing patches of water left. by the tide.
Within a few minutes of creating the new' record Segrave spoke over tho transatlantic telephone to the "Daily Express."- "I've done it, thank God! If an American beats me, I will certainly make another attempt. Tho water circulation tap broke, and I was blinded with steam for a while and had to make tase of an ice-box specially placed hit the nose of the car to augment the cooling system." '. Mrs. Segrave also spoke: "Yes, I saw him do it. It was certainly a great thrill. I am' very much upset and do not mind admitting.."! was frightened. He's told me he'may go again. When he docs I shall be there."
