3000 RELIEF WORKERS
. Replying to an inquiry by-a'"Post" reporter to-day, .the of Public Wxirks (tho Hon. E''A.' Biinsbin) stated that the latest report .received, by him showed that 2999 previously unemployed ,'workers were now engaged /on special relief works organised by tho Government. Most of the men were employed on road construction and road repairing work, arid>some on railway improvements, and..extensions. As soon, as the .necessary... arrangements could bo made by the Public Works Department more unemployed could be absorbed on the new'railway works outlined yesterday by the Prime Ministor. . In such cases; he added, the new extensions would not be carried out, of course,- solely by .relief labour; the unemployed -would.supplement -experienced employees, of the Department..,. •
. Mr. Hansom, said that" at the present time, ineludingv unemployment ; relief workers, there were 14,000 men engaged on Public Works contracts throughout tho Dominion. ,'.,•■"'
