MOTOR UNION SEATS

The representations made to thn Minister of "Transport yesterday by the doputation from the-North and South Island Motor Unions' Conference were placed before Cabinet yesterday afternoon. The Minister (the Hon. W. A. Veitch) announced'- subsequently that Cabinet had decided ( to give effect to the request, that the two, motor unions should be represented separately on the Transport Advisory Council, instead of there being joint representation. It was not considered advisable to adopt the other amendments l proposed by the motor unions. v Mr. Veitch said that.he would proceed at onco with the necessary formalities incidental to the setting up of- 1 tho council according' to the 'amended constitution, but the constitution would be 'subjoct' to 'review when the transport legislation was being prepared for presentation to Parliament. As to tho personnel of the Advisory Council, where the various parties, to be represented had a proper'organisation-they would bo consulted as to what.recommendation they wished to' mako for their representation. The appointment of the officers was by: law the- responsibility of the Public Service/Commissioner, who was now'going'into' the'matter. The selection ' of. departmental • offices would also rest in'his hands.
