BREAKING AND ENTERING
Arrested in the"city last Thursday afternoon, William Henry Thomas, ■ a seaman, aged 37,' and Daniel O'Kce'fu, a cook, aged 39, admitted before Mr. K. Pago, S.M., in . the Magistrate's: Oonrt to-d;iy breaking, and entering by cluy the aliop of Frederick .Empson at 10, Manners street, and. stealing 45 yards of ■ surge and two pieces of lining 'valued at £48.' • : ' . :■
i'Detective M'Lcllim statpd-that, he had interviewed the two accused in regard to the offence and had obtained statements from. them in '■■'* which they admitted it. In their statements the accused said that they were drinking in an hotel on Saturday, 9th I^bruary, when they -iiitid.u up. their minds to go to a tailor's shop upstairs at; 10, Manners street. . They went to the shop about 3 o'clock and found the door locked. Thomas, with the assistance of O'lveefe, climbed through tlio fanlight and opened the door. Tho accused put the stolonjgoodS'in a large sack and left ithem-iu ashed at tho rear of a man ,named Sharp's house in Hopper street. " ! O'Keel'u in his statement said- that a few; days later "Sharp, gave me £3 for the stuff and told me to get out of it, and that ho didn't want to see me again." . ■■■■...''■
The accused, for whom Mr.. E. G. Wobb appeared, were committed.to the Supreme Court for sentence.
John Sharp, a news agent, aged 45, was charged with receiving the stolen goods.
After evidence had been taken the accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supremo Court for trial. Mr. W. E. Leicester appeared for the accused. ■. ■ ' : .
