COLD SNAP IN BRITAIN
SKATING UNIVERSAL
British Ottlelal Wireless.
(Boceived 20th February, noon.)
BUGBY, 19th February.
Except on tho east coast temperatures in most places in Britain rose yesterday, but there was a frost again last night, and official forocasts again I no indication that a general thaw is , imminent. Skating is still being en-1 joyed on tho frozen lakes and ponds in j and around London and in the Fen country, and in tho lake district vast stretches of ice are still available, while the frozen rivers and canals in Eastern Counties afford many miles of skating. Although the Thames is frozen over in its upper reaches tho thickness of the ice is so variable as to make skating unsafe. Practically all the roads throughout England sto now passable, accumulations of snow and ice having been cleared, but in Devonshire, where there is from six to 'eight inches of snow on the main roads, travelling is treacherous, and in Wales many of tho main roads aro Still impassable
