Employers in the timber trade report that atr least ten Sydney firms are working full time on a forty-eight hour week. As the result of the call issued yesterday for free labour, many- applications have been received from men seeking employment.

The inave took the trades union officials by surprise, but they declare that they are not perturbed by the timber merchants- 5 threat to engage free labour. They are of opinion that the employSrs will not get much of a response. Union offieiajs add that they have been advised that the majority of the Newcastle yards have reverted to a fortyfour hour week. All the men have been re-engaged.
