SEEKING AN AERODROME
GOOD PROSPECT AT TAHUNA-

Messrs. F. and D. Edwards's new building in Trafalgar street is now completed, and that company's offices were moved into the new premises to-day. The building, which is a handsome addition to Nelson's architecture, contains the first passenger electric lift installed: in ,the city. ' ' .■'■••
Major T. M. Wilkes, Director of. the New Zealand Air Force, arrived in- Nelson to-day. During the morning he visit* ed a proposed aerodrome site at Tahuna. He reported very favourably on the locality as being easy of approach from any direction, and said that the area would make a very fine flying ground, provided it could be sown with suitable grass to bind the surface, and provided some sand dunes could be levelled to give- the space required. Major Wilkes said that -Nelson would not be a suitable place for seaplanes. During' the. afternoon the visitor was taken to Wakapuaka. He said that the ground there was . favourably, located for approach from "the air, but agreed that Tahuna was preferable be« cause of its nearness to the city. On the morning visit Major Wilkes was 'accompanied by officials of the Nelson Aero Club and members of local bodies. . He leaves for Wellington to-night.
Motueka will be in darkness for a-night shortly while the electrical plant is being overhauled. ■ ■ ■*■•■
A case, of attempted suicide was heard before Mr. T. E. Maunsell at the Magistrate's "Court to-day. The accused,, a Nelson business man, drank a small quantity of disinfectant while in a fit of depression. Mr. W. C. Harley appeared for the accused and asked for leniency. Sentence was deferred.
The Minister of Public Works has. advised Mr. G. C. Black, M.P., that heba* authorised a, free grant of £150 to. the Murchison County Council for the Doughboy Creek deviation on certain conditions. There was an accident at this spot some days ago. ■
information has been received that the Eev. Father Hoare, late of Nelson, is at present a patient in the Lewisham Private Hospital, Christchurch, where "M has just undergone a successful operation. .:.;
Mrs. Grace Jackson's home in Examiner street was broken into orilst Febr*. ary snd as an outcome Edward John Mackay appeared before Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., in Court to-day charged with breaking and entering, and stealing goods to the value of £22 10s 6d, the property of Mrs. Jackson, and of Lucy Emily; Ryder, a maid employed at the house. Mr. W. C. HarJey appeared, for the: accused, who pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. •■.. • ■■;■•..
