. The. second . South': Canterbury- wool sale of lhc season opened, to-night, when a catalogue of 22,272 bales was.""offered to'" a full ..bench" of .buyers representing nearly, all the wool consuming countries. The clips opened in slightly better condition than at the corresponding sale last year, ■ being lighter in'grease and only a small percentage was- tender. On the whole..it was sound .and well grown.,.
Bidding at no stage could be' called keen, and at. times its. was very erratic. At-the end of .the' second catalogue, at which stage ■ about 11,000 bales had been disposed of, prices .were, from par to a shade easier than at the recent Dunedin rale... Merino, wool/wds out of favour, but,'■• three-qifarterbred ''45;50 was ' keenly sqiißlit after. Continental buyers 'pushed halfbreds, which went up to 21!£d; ■•' The top price for. three-quartevbreds-af.'the end'of the second catalogue was'.2ld.'
