Councillor Neale will movo at tho noxt meeting of tho City Council that application bo made to tho Local Bodies' Loan Board to place before the ratepayers a proposal to raise a sum of & 14,000 for the purpose of reclaiming tho mudflat immediately north of Halifax street as far as tho lino of the suggustod now road from Auckland point across to tho present rubbish tip. Outdoor activities for tho holiday tomorrow (Anniversary Day) arc- Humorous throughout tho district. The chief ovont is tho Nelson Trotting Club's Mooting at Bichmond Park. Tho provincial lawn tennis championships will ■be played on tho Nelson Club's courts, and there is a bowling tournament on tho Wakcfluld Greens. At Motueka tho Returned Soldiers' Association will hold a carnival at the beach. Tho Nikau is making a special trip. At Takaka there will bo the show. Tho Minister of Public Health (tho Hon. A. J. Stallworthy) will perform tho opening cerejnony. The district championship riflo meeting will bo hold at Tapawcra.

Work is proceeding rapidly with tho erection of a now largo turbo-altcrnntor unit at tho Port Nelson Powor Station. It is of, up-to-date design and necessitates the erection of a largo water-cool-ing towor 65ft high on tho seaward sidu of the power-house. Tho new alterna-/ tor runs at 3000 revolutions per minute, and has an output of, 937 k.y.a. When it is in operation tho capacity of the ptntion will bo 1500 k.v.n.

Edward Frank Dodson, a pupil of the Nelson Boys' College, came first for the Dominion in tho recent Public Servico examination. In all there aro 25 successful Nelson candidates.
