ANOTHER PARTY'S TRIP

With the intention of picking up the official launch and also following Miss Copplestone's progress, Mr. J. It. bait's launch left Island Bay at 2 o'clock this morning, taking a course

tjwards Tory Channel and then to Capo Koamoru. When in the vicinity of Karori Rock another launch was passed, but its identity was not known, and it was not until the party from Island Bay returned about 10 -o'clock this morning that it transpired that the launch which had been passed was no doubt that which brought the swimmer on to Wellington. Mr. Taifc's launch went to To Awaite, and a call was made at Mr. Tom's residence, where it was acertained that the swimmer and party had left for tho starting point at 11.30 p.m. On going back to that point there was no sign of tho swimmer, and after covering further water it was concluded that the attempt had been given up. In- Mr. Tait 's opinion the conditions in Cook Strait wero better than they had been for some time, and he considers that Miss Copplestone would have been better advised to have mado her start somo three hours later than she did.
