MELBOURNE, 31st January. Tho police, after inquiries into the Williams car mystery, have detained a swaginan, at Murtoa, Northern Victoria. Tho swagman was traced for 200 miles. He is now charged with vagrancy. His original story to the Donnybrook hotelkeeper was repeated at the Coburg suburb, where, he told the police that ho was attacked by th« driver of a car, who gave him a lift, lie was robbed then, and thrown on the roadside. Thero is a wound over his loft eye. His singlot is bloodstained. Tho police are now questioning him in tho Melbourne lock-up. There is no trace of Leslie Williams. The polico are dragging rivers and water holes.

The • swagman detained is named Viscoe. He comes from Now Zealand.
