PLUMBERS' WAGES

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Your correspondent, "Certified Plumber," ia last night's issue, complains of the poor wages paid to plumbers. I wonder if your correspondent ever thinks of the complaints of the public about the poor, Bcanrped work so often done by plumbers. It is common knowledge that too often, not only is time deliberately wasted on a job, but when the alleged job is finished and charged against the citizen, it is found that the work is defective, and needs further attention. I have personally seen men on a job, when there was no oversight, deliberately smoking and playing cards. It was immaterial to the employer. He simply charged the time. As one of the suffering public, I say .we don't mind paying good wages if the work is properly done and in reasonable time, but we object to pay high wages for inefficiency and go slow methods, which, unfortunately prevail in New Zealand.—l am, etc.,

INDUSTRIOUS.
