SWIMMING

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

There is every prospect of some great swimming in the first day's events at Te Aro Baths to-morrow afternoon. Several championships are to be decided, including the 100 yards, men's, one mile men's, and 100 yards ladies, nil three events promising to be stirring contests. Local supporters are confident that W. Cameron, Wellington's ciuck sprinter, will win the title t'rom Jforman Bowsott (W^angamii), but the hitter is a brilliant performer over 100 yards, and will bo extremely difficult to dispose of. Alec Stokes (Canterbury) is going great guns at present, and togotlior with Claridge (Wellington), Farrell, and Enwright (Auckland) will see that there is no loafing on the journey. It will be an exciting race. D. P. Lindsay is well known as a distance swimmer, holding several records, but he may have to establish another to-morrow i£ he wishes to retain the mile title. Stokes and Bridson aro in fine form and will keep the champion moving all the way. Miss Stockley is swimming in top form at present, and it will occasion little surprise if (she lowers her own record in the 100 yards ladies' championship. The younger swimmers have their chances in the intermediate and junior championships, which coiitests will bo equally as exciting as the senior events. There is some fine talent in these grades. Two games of water polo will bo played, both Wellington teams being down to meet Otago and Cantorliury respectively. Season tickets can bo booked at a reduced rate, or daily reservations made at Mr. E. Perry's, Manners street. The doors will open to-morrow at 1.45 p.m.
