FOR THE NATION

SCOTT EXPEDITION FILM

(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 26th Nov. Mr. H. G. Ponting's filmed record of Captain Scott's last expedition to the Antarctic has, through the generosity of private donors whose identity is not revealed, been acquired for the nation. The transaction was concluded at a small luncheon party given, by Mr. Alfred C. Bossom, founder of tlie Bossonv Building Research lectures, at which were present Lord Askwith and Rear-Admiral E. K. G. R. Evans ("Evans of the Broke"), Scott's second in command.

Tlie British Film Institute, 'which will act as custodian of the film, announces that its intention is to present it throughout Great Britain,. the Doniinions, and America. It is hoped that this may prove the first step in establishing a national collection of historical films preserving records of contemporary life for the benefit of posterity.

The photographs were taken by Mr. Ponting on film that was two years old, which- was brought back by Captain Scott to the camping place where ho and his remaining comrades died. For eight months the roll of film lay in the snow beside the body of the dead leader, where it was found by the search party. *

The film will form the nucleus of a national film museum under the care of the institute.
