The Him was first of all made by a German studio to show the many wanderings of the Emden and the coups made by her captain in different parts of tho world, but it is by no means one-sided in its conception nor is it entirely from tho point of view of Germany. For the first timu in the history of Australia, the .Vary has been used for cinema purposes, and tlio completed production gives historical detail accurately and also the true facts of tho engagement viewed from both sides. A particularly Interesting coup mado by the Emden during her rovings is shown to advanlago in one of the many thrilling sequences to be seen In the film. And now comes somethin" new even for Gilbert—his role as a swashbuckling, braggadocio Cossack S°W»"' who, under his veneer of bravado, nas the soul of a poet. • It is a complicated role, and one that grips the very heart, ft is said It thrills with its sheer drama, and battles tiy s truth to life. Such is, John Gilbert as Juknshka In "Tho Cossacks," Metro-Goldwyn-Maver's vivid drama of the Russian steppes, which will commence its Wellington season next Friday at the l)e Luxe Theatre. Incidentally Itcnee Adoree is tho girl (Gilbert's sweetheart of "The Big Parade," and just as in this play).
