ELIMINATION CONTESTS
United Press Association—By Electric Telteraph—CoDyrlcht. Australian fresa Association. NEW YOKK, 26th January. Jack Sliarkey (1931b) won a dose decision in a twelve-rounds' contest at Madison Square Garden, from Kayo (Jhristner (193%1b). Chi-istner fought gamely.throughout, but Sharkey's skill and experience told iv the latter rounds, enabling him to outpoint his opponent, who, however, is still considered to be potentially a formidable heavy-weight contender. He was formerly an iron-worker at Akron, Ohio. Although he has no great boxing ability his chances are not overlooked. Sharkey will meet Young Striblh)!; at Miami Beach on 27th February, in a championship elimination bout, under the promotion of Deuiusey. Further progress towa«l the selection for the next championship bout depends greatly upon the result oi that fight. Stribling to-night won ■ a technical knock-out in the third round against 1-ialph Smith (Californian), whom Stribling hammered at will, favourably impressing on lookers.
