DEPARTMENTAL PICNIC
The anuual pieuie of the National Provident Fund and Friendly Societies' Department, combined , with the Public Service Superannuation Department, was held at Day's Bay last Thursday. Although the weather in the morning was rather boisterous, it cleared up towards the afternoon and a most enjoyable day was spent. A lengthy sports programme was successfully carried through, the results being as follows:—Men's handicap, Parsonage. 1, Rosen 2; ladies' handicap, Miss S. Swinburne 1, Miss N. Ward 2;. men's Darwinian race, Ballantyne 1; mai> Vied men's race, Brown 1, Smith 2; visiting ladies' race, Miss Wadsworth 1, Miss Clark, 2; .groups' relay, Messrs. Parsonage, Brown, Riley, and Misses Sawyer 'and Kyle; cigarette race, Misa Scott and Abernethy; ladies' bunny race, Miss Ward; children's race, Betty Richards, Spencer Smith; three-legged race, Miss Swinburne and Ballantyne; shoe race, Miss Swinburne and M'Donnell; wheelbarrow race, Miss Kyle and Barker; challenge race, Miss Swinburne's team. After the 6ports programme, a tennis tournament took place, the winners being Messrs. Rosen and Gilligan. During the luncheon adjournment Mrs. Wright presented the prizes won during the day.
