FRUSTRATE ATTEMPT AT

SUICIDE

AUCKLAND, .This Day. How two wayward coins'saved a life was related in the Police Court today, when Thomas James Catran, a middle-aged butcher, of Otahuhu, admitted attempting suicide on 19th January. Sub-Inspector M'Carthy said that Catran, who had recently been depressed, left a note stating that ho was going to take his life. He placed two shillings in a meter and waited for the gas to suffocate him. The coins, however, jammed, and Catran.reported the matter to the police. He now felt better, and relatives have agreed to look after him. . Catran was convicted and discharged on condition that ho took out 'a prohibition order.
