HATAITAI BUS SERVICE

Sir, —It is now several weeks since the' new bus service to Hataitai was. inaugurated, und so far I have seen scarcely, any comment on the treatment we are receiving at the hands of the. council bus management. How long are Hataitai re- . aidents going •to allow the council to charge them threepence from the School, to Roseneath, when the Rosencath people are carried from Roscneath to Courtenay place for the same amount?' The thing is too absurd to require logic to prove the gross unreasonableness of this* charge. I guarantee that no private bus company would attempt to charge threepence" for so short a distance. Have the tramway, bus managers been over the route themselves and seen rind agre.ed to Graftou road from the Hataitai School to lloseneath being split into two sections? On the other hand, I blame -Hataitai people for not raising a protest against such an unjust charge being imposed on them. It is not long now till the municipal elections*, and I trust our' Hataitai people will see that we get satisfaction from the prospective candidates. The'public do not mind paying a, fair price for the privilege of having a bus service; but they will not tolerate too long being charged as at present. If the tramway authorities are in real earnest about this Hataitai bus extension service, let them give us a reasonable scale. of charges,' and' the service will more than pay, because now the roads are practically bituminised all the, way. When are' the authorities going to entertain ■ running a couple of the Koseneath buses round to the Hataitai School for those who want to go home for lunch?—l. am, etc., ! HATAITAI RESIDENT.
