Pressure has risen over tlio Dominion, but as the rise was considerable in southern parts and only slight to tlio northwards and on tho east coast of the North Island, gradient steepened in the night. As a result, southerly winds became stronger, and gales have been particularly severe from Cook Strait southwards. Cold, squally conditions, with showers, have been fairly genera!, and heavy rain fell durinc the nißht on the cast coast south of Casllcpoint, in parts of Otago, and on tho west coast of the Auckland Peninsula.
