Australian Press Association—United Service,
PABIS, 22nd January
Simultaneously with Mr. Baldwin's statement in the House of Commons, the French Channel Tunnel Committee held a special meeting to celebrate the occasion. Subsequently it issued a statement welcoming the unanimity of the British Press in favour of the tunnel, and characterising the eventful authorisation of the tunnel by the British Government as the most precious instrument of Franco-British rapprochement and a guarantee of European peace. The committee sent a cordial message of congratulation to Sir William. Bull.
