TO SAVE LIFE
REEL AT TITAHI BAY
The new 'life-saving apparatus for Titalii Buy was tested on Sunday, when members of the Maranui, Lyall Bay, Bay, and Island Bay clubs competed for the Otaki Land-Drill Cup and the Otaki Waterworks Shield.
The life-saving reel, belt, and.line were presented for use on the Titahi beach by Mrs. Young, widow o£ the late Mr. T. Young, of the legal firm of Messrs. Young, Neave, White, and Courtney, following upon a double drowning fatality which occurred at the beach towards the end of last summer. At present there is no.lifesaving club at Titahi Bay, but it is probable that steps will be taken shortly to. establish one. In the meantime the lifesaving apparatus is to be stationed on the beach, and will be available for use if the necessity arises. In view of the wide, area of beach used by swimmers, it may be necessary for some provision to be. made to restrict bathing if only one . reel is available. . . ■ . ■ ■

Otaki Shield.—Lyall Bay A 1, Miiranui A 2, Lyall Bay B 3, Muranui i, Island Bay 5.
