STRAND THEATRE.
"ilindlo Wakes," a British Ulm from Stanley Hougutoil's famous play of Lancashire life ' is one of the two attractions at tin- Strand Theatre. It features Norman . H'Kinncl, Kstelle lirody, John Stuart, Peggy Carlisle, and l.'ladys : Jennings. 'Hindle Wakes" is a (hie drama played on tlie human note against a background of industrial life and Id the novel atmosphere of the "wakes" week, llindle —a forest of factory chimney-stacks above dreary desolate streets. Imagine Blackpool's Tower Ballroom with a dancing crowd of U3-17 —the biggest yet screened. Two young girls, mill-workers both of them, let loose for a whole week among the pleasures of gay Blackpool. The second feature la another British (Stoll) production, "The Golden Butterfly," in which Lila Damita and Jack Trevor play the principal parts. Lila Damita made her first acquaintance with aims as a dancer in a French picture at tlio age of six. Later, she did so well that she was given her- big chance ill "The Golden Buttertly," which Is from tlio novel by 1\ G. Wodehuuse. A piuturo of the .'stage, it deals with' a young girl who won success as a dancer at tlio cost of her lover. She meets with an accident which cuts short her career, and how she finds her way.back to love is charmingly told. A
