DEATH FROM TYPHOID
DRAINS UNSATISFACTORY (By Telegraph.—Press, Association.) HAMILTON, This Day. Recently five typhoid;patients from the Waikeria Borstal were, admitted to tTie Waikato Hospital. One died on 30th December, and.another, Frederick Logic, aged 22," whose father is- said to reside in Christchurch, died last night. An inquest will be held to-day. At ■ the inquest on Frederick Logic, Joseph Terry, the .health officer, said that the drainage system at Waikeria was not satisfactory. ' rl*he drainage was in open channels.' The nightsoil was dumped in an open pit 200 yards from the building. ' The Health Department this week recommended. the Prisons Department to'install a. septic -tank. . . -,:.•..',,:.,',.' Dr.- Hockin, 'medical.superintendent at | the hospital,'said thatLogie was a very ] sick man: when, admitted. Logic ■ in-1 formed him-that he had been, feeling | ill'for ten: days, but-had'not informed the Borstal officers. -. The : remaining three typhoid patients-from. Waikeria were recovering. ;'.:''..- The Coroner, Mr..Wyvern Wilson,.said that in view, of the recommendation of the Health Department he iwould simply find a verdict in accordance with-medi-cal evidence, death being due to toxemia and heart failure.
