To those who have not followed the rapid growth in ■ popular favour of the gladiolus, the Karori Mid-Summer Show on the 19th January will be a revelation in its exhibits of this handsome flower. There will be the keenest of competition for a valuable trophy between outstanding growers from • the Hutt. and: other parts iof Wellington province and local growers. Trophies for carnations, sweetpeas, cut flowers, vegetables,^ etc., also assure record: entries. The annual Summer Show of, St. Thomas's Hoi"ticultural Society will be opened by the Mayor on Wednesday next at 3 p.m. There.should be a wealth of summer flowers and vegetables. The children have special sections allotted to them, and their exhibits are generally a good show in themselves. The home industries include such'classes as needlework, jams, pickles, and cookery of all kinds for both the mothers, girls,' and boys, as also any of their hobby work. Entries will be received on Tuesday evening and up to 10 a.m. Wednesday.
