TEACHER FOR DUNEDIN MISS CATHERINE SANDERS (From "The Post's" R«prM»ntatlv«.) LONDON, 7th September. Miss Catherine Sanders has been appointed lecturer in Modern Infant Room Methods at the Dunedin Teachers' Training College, and she is. to take up her duties on Ist February, 1929. . At present she is on a holiday in Denmark. Since 1919 she has been employed as an art and handwork mistress at the Central School, West Loughton, Lancashire. Miss Sanders, in 1917,. entered St. Charles's Training College, North Kensington, where she took a two years' course, making a special study of infant room methods and the teaching o£ art and handwork. She gained distinction for an advanced art course. After leaving St. Charles's College at.the end of 1919 Miss Sanders was appointed assistant mistress at St. Mary's School, Fenton, where, for four-and-a-half yearsi she taught entirely on industrial lines, making a special feature cif the decoration of the intant room, combining the learning of signs and numbers in a decorative as well as a useful manner. A great many people were recommended to pay a visit to this room by His Majesty's School Inspectors. . Miss Sanders was also asked by the Director of Education to send a copy of the arrangement of the room and portions from the decorations ; of the various walls to the Educational Exhibition in 'London in 1922. She was one of only two. teachers in the Pottery Towns District asked to do such work, and her Education Committee received a congratulatory report on the work submitted. Miss Sanders has received instruction in leather work from Miss Ellen Carter, who is well known in this connection in London. She is also a good needlewoman, although she has not been called upon so far to teach this subject. Altogether she has had nine years' experience of teaching children of all ages, and she appreciates their limitations, ■ Everyone who has come in touch with Miss Sanders speaks very highly of her and her capacity, and Mr. .T. Raymont (late Warden of the Goldsmiths' College and president of tho Training College Association), who was one of tho committee of selection, was Very much impressed with her.
