LOST SUBMARINE

Three hours before the submarine left Cherbourg on her -last!; voyage he wrote to his parents: "I embrace you for the last time. Something tells me I shall not return.'' In addition to blaming the captain of the Ekaterina, the newspapers point out that the Ondine was a defective model am? should not have been sent on a long cruise without a surface boat as escort. ■■'.'. Naval circles are surprised that none of the crew were on deck and able to struggle to the surface. French torpedo craft are still searching for trae ss of the lost submarine. There were harrowing scenes at Cherbourg and Rouen when the loss of all hands was reported, relatives and wives thronging the ittaval offices for news.
