DAY'S BAY DEVIATION

At the request of the Lands and Survey Department the Hutt Park Committee at its meeting last night agreed to' liaud over a portion of its land in the Hutt Park reserve to allow of a short cut being made in the Day's Bay road, commencing from about the foot of Randwick road and joining up with the existing main road towards Lowry Bay. The land transferred is quite a small piece lying bstween the bitumen road and the Waiwhetu stream just before the footbridge to the cemetery is reached.' Mr. W. T. Strand (Mayor of Lower Hutt), who was present on other business, explained to the committee members that the deviation when constructed would greatly relieve the congestion on trotting days, as the old .i-o;ul could be used as a parking place. . The committee's only condition was .that the necessary traffic bridge over the Waiwhelu stream .should bo high enough to allow ordinary' small motor launches to pass beneath it.
