CYCLING

50 MILES N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP Cyclists from all over New Zealand are gathered in Wellington to compete for the SO miles New Zealand championship road race, to take place to-morrow afternoon at 2.15, commencing and finishing alongside the Central Fire Brigade Station, Jervois quay. Entries have been received from Auckland, including J. H. Wade, the present holder of the title. J. F. Algie, the Gisborne champion, is also a competitor, while a strong entry from Canterbury includes L. G. Lukey, winner of last year's Palmerston North to Wellington road race, and Frank Grose, present holder of all the New Zealand track championships. Forty-two entries have so tar been received, and there is every prospect of to-morrow's race being one of the best since the inauguration of the championship three years ago. The race will be started by his Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup), who has also agreed to present the trophies at the conclusion of the contest. All the competitors have entered for this year's Palmerston North to Wellington road race, which takes place the following Saturday, and finishes at the Basin Reserve, where the first man is expected to arrive at 3 o'clock.
