BASUTO CHIEF DEAD
Australian Press Association. CAPETOWN, 12th September. Chief Jonathan, grandson of the great Basuto chief Moshes, has died at the ago of 83 years. His funeral, with European rites, was attended by thousands of natives. Jonathan throughout his life was a supporter of British government. During the 1880 rebellion ho made a notablo night raid and saved the lives of Europeans at Hlotse. • He also heavily defeated recalcitrants in 1884.
