PALAEOLITHIC MAN

DISCOVERIES IN BRITAIN British Official Wireless. BUGBY, 12th Sept. Although many of the papers and the discussion of the distinguished scientists assembled at the British Association meetings at Glasgow are highly technical, others have considerable interest to laymen. In the anthropology section two interesting discoveries are announced. Dr. Ritchie, Curator of the National Museum in Edinburgh, described the finding of the first record of palaeolithic man in Scotland, which showed that Scotland had been inhabited for long periods during the later stages of the glacial age, and Professor Armstrong described the discovery 'of an engraved bone found in Derbyshire on which is depicted a human figure standing erect, apparently in the'attitude of ceremonial dancing. This is the first palaeolithic representation of human figures found in Britain, and it recalls finds made in France and Spain.
