SEA SCOUTS

A NAUTICAL CONCERT Last night the first concert to be staged by the members of the Wellington District Sea Scouts was presented in the Caledonian Hall. During the last twelve months the Sea Scout movement has made very rapid strides, springing from a rather small body to a surprisingly large number of enthusiasts. This is due primarily to the keenness of the Commissioner of. Sea Scouts (Commander Young), who has worked hard to establish the movement in Wellington, ad whose untiring labour in this very worthy movement must now be 7ell rewarded in the large number of boys, and men too, who have joined the ranks of the Sea Scouts. In June of Jast year there were only two troops—the Port Nicholson and the Collingwood—consisting of about fifty lads. Now there are troops at Petone, Evans Bay, Island Bay, and Eastbourne, in addition to the two already mentioned. The aim of the conceit last night was to help collect funds for providing a suitable training ketch, to give more practical training to the boys.1 Among those present were the Commissioner of Scouts (Sir Alfred Robin) and the secretary of the Navy League (Mr. R. Darroch). The programme might well be termed a "breezy" one, as .many various chanties and other numbers with a distinctly nautical fla\*our were presented. In. addition to items by the different troops, songs were also sung by Messrs. Elston, Croft, Flyger, and Grant.
