.» BALANCE ,OF PAVING LOAN At a recent meeting of tho City aud Suburban Highways Board, following upon a discussion, in the course of which sharply opposed views were expressed, upon the work which should bo carried out with the £24,000 still available under the £100,000 loan authorisation, a committee was set up to draw up proposals as to Suitable additional streets or roads for surfacing. The widening of the Hutt road pavement also came largely into tho picture, for the City Council and some members of the board are definitely of the opinion that the pavement should be widened as a first charge against the available loan money. Other board members have taken up tho stand that the board has no concern with secondary roads and that none of its finances should be so expended. To-day the committee made its report, a very brief one, that further consideration be deferred until the completion of the present programme. It was adopted without discussion. _^____^______
