WANGANUI MEETING

FIRST- OF CLASSICAL RACES All that 'is now required to make the Spring Meeting, of the Wanganui Jockey. Club one. of, the most successful in the history of this old-established club is good •weather. At this time of the year, more particularly alter the amount of rain that had fallen- up till recently, most of the race tracks are -inclined to be soft, but Wanganui' has the best wet weather track in the Dominion. Hence fair going is assured, even under bad climatic conditions. Racing commences at 11.45 a.m. with the MAIDEN RACK, of -175 soys; six furlongs; special weights,

Teremoana we,nfc well, a_t the recent meeting at.Dannevirke, while Otaura Lass, Marica, Black . Maire, and The Warden ■ were all prominent in their race at Marton last _ week. If The Warden has gone on the right way since last week, he must prove very' hard' to beat, and most trouble may ■ come; from ■ "the , "Fordell-trained Cashier, or Marica.. . OKEHU HURDLES, of 225 sots; one mile and . three-auarters.

For a Spring Meeting this is a good class field, and the event should provide a good conteßt. Cohesion won in good stylo at Marton last week, and as ho is certain to run. well, backers are certain to prefer his chance. Gaze, if at his best, might prove too good for this held, but as he' is reported lame, there is a chance that this -may ' affect his prospects. Although Brigadier Bill has raced badly of

late, he may do better to-morrow on a course he has shown his best. His stable mate Kilburu is well just now, find may have tho stable confidence. A likely trio are Gaze, Cohesion, and Kilburn. PUTIKI HACK HANDICAP, of 200 soys; ono mile and 110 yards.

There is an excellent field for a "hack" event, and as several of the acceptors have recent form as a recommendation, _ several may be well supported. There is little doubt that Singleton is a fair sort, in spite of his Marton defeat, and he will bo very hard to beat at Wanganui. When well, Discourse is well up to this class, but may need racing. Pale Star has won four times on end, but has not beaten the quality he meets to-morrow. Gold Cure again went well at Marton, and if at her best Quarterdeck will be dangerous, but Singleton and Gold Cure appeal most. SEAFIELD HANDICAP, of 225 soys; seven furlongs,

The.draw for position may play an important part in this event for at Wanganui (like- all circular courses) a good barrier position is essential. King Lv let his connections down badly at Marton, but that was not his correct form. The consistent Partaga raced prominently at tho Taranaki Hunt Club Meeting, while the evergreen Day Guard is always a possibility. Pangolin will have his first introduction to "open" class. Gardant' surprised the majority, and under a light weight may again show up to-morrow. In a difficult field King Lv, Partaga, and Day Guard should satisfy their supporters. WANGANUI GUINEAS.

This race i:"vpr attracts a large field, but the horses ca^.iged to-morrow are about the average. Full Feather exhibited pace in some of his races last season, but at times performed indifferently. Lucky Light was "bred in . the purple," and showed winning form by boating a maiden hack field at the Hawkes Bay Hunt Club Meeting last month. Moutoa Treasury has not grown much since last season, but appears to have gone on the right way, and she displayed rare courage at Marton last week. High Falutin' is fast, and The Warden and Consent have raced well among hacks, but on form one canuot pass Episode. DUEIE vHACK HANDICAP, of 200 soys; six furlungs.

A particularly smart lot of hacks figure in this race, and Lady's Boy heads the handicap, but there is just a chance that he may be reserved for the Flying Handicap. Avoncourt ran well last season in all her races, and' if she has done sufficient work will be prominent. 'Banket displayed a lot of dash last seasou, but she, too, has not had a race this season. Although beaten into second place at Marton last week, Knightlike was not disgraced, and it will come as a surprise should he not do well to-morrow. Lucy Rose let her connections down at Marton, and, although there was an excuse, it really points to Kinglike, with Banket and Avoncourt next best. MARANGAI HANDICAP, of 400 soys; one mile and 110 yards.

The club is extremely lucky to secure such an excellent lot as those engaged in the Marangai Handicap. Paitonu has not raced since he ran last at the Winter Meeting held at Trentham. This, of course, was not his true form, and as a fresh horse he will possibly do better at Wanganui. After his display at Marton ono cannot favour Nukumui, but Black Mint is one that cannot be passed over. Valkou failed last week, but may do better with racing; while Vivo, Shining Armour, Queen Arch, Blimp, aud Royal Mint have all raced well of late. Valkon, Black Mint, aud Vivo are three that may show up to-morrow. FLYING HANDICAP, of 300 soys; six furlongs,

With twenty-two engaged in the Flying Handicap, backers will want all tho luck offering to select even a "place-getter." A good barrier position is essential from a six-furlong post on a circular course, find witnout such a horse will be lucky to win to-morrow's Flying. Withß. Morris in tho saddle, Kiosk should rim very prominently, and as Tea Time is well aud races best when fresh, and, in addition, begips quickly, so ho also commands respect. Of those lower iv the handicap, Oration and Lady's Boy have had the advantage of recent racing.
