PETONE-HUTT CAS BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Petone and Lower Butt Gas fighting Board was held night. There were present Mr. W. G. Lodder (chairman), Messrs. E. Hogg, C. P. Brockelbank, W. G. Meldriim, W. T. Strand, and V. E. Jacobsou. Two residents of Richmond street wrote complaining of poor gas pressure. The board instructed the manager to cure the defect by relaying tho main in that street as soon as possible. The question of introducing a superannuation scheme for the board's employees was considered. The chairman said that even before the experts had explained the scheme to the men the greater number of them were in favour of it. Members of the board also spoke in favour of the proposals, and it was finally decided to embark upon the scheme. The gag manager's report for the mouth of August gave the weight of coal carbonised as 579 tons 10 ewt, from which 8,836,000 cubic feet of gas were manufactured, giving an average make per ton of 15,247 cubic feot. Tho average calorific value for the month was 500 B.Th.U., while the increased manufacture over August, 1027, ..was 877,500 cubic feet. Coal, coke, and tar in stock on Ist September amounted to 845 tons S ewt 3 qrs, 3 tons and 14,000 gallons respectively. New services'installed during the month were 41, cookers 43, coppers 10, caliphonU 11, gas fires 2. Mains laid totalled 105'zi chains. It was expected that the laying of the high-pressure main, which was proceeding satisfactorily, would be completed by the end of tho present month.
