TEXTILE MARKETS.
A London firm of buyers under date Ist August advises Wellington clients of the depressing effect on the cotton goods markets of the rise of lid on spot quotations for American raw cotton on Ist July. "As a result (it is stated) trade showed a distinct falling off with the further consequence that quotations have again reacted, and stand where they ■were at the beginning of June. The immediate outlook is uncertain, and labour disturbances in some districts are disquieting, but we do not anticipate any marked swing of the price peudulum in either direction. Meanwhile continuous efforts are being made to get the whole Lancashire position on to a more favourable basis." A former report stated wool slightly firmer, leather prices hard. Fur felt hats showed^ rising tendency. Hosiery deliveries difficult.
