TRANS-TASMAtf LETTERS To Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith belongs the distinction, in addition to the honours ho has merited by being the first airman to cross tho Tasman, of conveying the first air-mail from Australia to New Zealand. In addition to' the official letter brought by him addressed to the Governor-General from the Governor-Genera' of Australia, and that for tho Prime Ministor from the Prime Minister of Australia, tho airman was the bearer of a letter to the Eight Hon. Sir Joseph Ward from tho chairman of the Southern Cross Insurance Company in Melbourne conveying good wishes to Sir Joseph and his co-direc-tors of the company in New Zealand. The letter was received by Sir Joseph this morning in his mail from Christchurch, tho envelope being endorsed "Per favour of Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith."
