WELLINGTON ACTIVITIES The monthly meeting of the floyal New i /", ,tsoclet y for the Health of Women and Children was held on Friday. The committee received with great regret (he news of the sudden death of Mrs. D. Hunt, the lion, secretary of the Hataitai sub-committee, and'placed on record its deep appreciation of the unselfish work that Mrs. Hunt had done for the society and its .sincere sympathy with her husband. Number of babies wholly breastfed, 98; partially breastfed, 21; artificially fed, 15; expectant mothers, 37; return visits to ante-natal clinic, 293; expectant mothers still under supervision, 188. The Brooklyn sub-committee requested, and have been ..anted, the use of another room by the officers of the Methodist Church in place of the one formerly used. It has been furnished by members at their own expense, and is more comfortable and convenient. The Karori sub-committee found that owing to the increasing number of mothers attending the Karori rooms, it was necessary to opcu the rooms two afternoons in the week. The nurses are indebted to Lady Hosking and Mr. Samson for driving them to long-distance cases once a week. Thanks are given to Lady Allen, Mrs. M'Eldowney, and Miss Bamett for flowers, Mesdames Lowe, Hammond, Brown, and Miss Poach for clothing, and Mrs. Henry for push-chair and clothing and also for a cot and baby chair. Tho report of the matron of the Kari- - taue.Hospital showed: Admissions for the month, 5 mothers and 10 babies; length of stay of discharged cases, 1 mother and 1 baby for seven days, 1 mother and 1 baby for ten days, 1 mother and 1 baby for two and a half weeks, 1 mother and I baby for three weeks, 1 mother and 1 baby for four and a half weeks, 2 babies for seven weeks, 2 babies for ten weeks, 1 baby for three and a half months.' Cases were admitted from Masterton, Martinborough, aud. Wellington. Visitors for the month numbered 513. Miss Moore and Miss Lambie, with post graduate classes of nurses, were given demonstrations of. tho bathing and dressing of the baby. The matron thanks Lady Hosking, the Levin Girls' Home, Mrs. Parton, and Miss Peach for singlets. Hume-made orange and lemon peel and cakes were received from Mrs. Parton, cakes from Mrs. Brighting and Miss Peach, flowers from Mrs. Duff and the Misses Bennet, Christie, Wilson, and Chapman, and Miss .Chapman repainted and renovated the nursery equipment. Total, £24 10s. Per Hataitai sub-committee: Proceeds of jumble sale, £12 10s; proceeds of children's party, £8 10s ls; collected in small sums, 17s 6d; Mrs. A. Wylie, £1 ls; Mrs. A. L. Luke, £1; Mrs. J. Dunlop, 10s; Mesdames Donald, Thompson, Allen, Carswell, Savage, Woodward, Bollard, Todd, Nocholls, Manthell, Watts, 5s each. Total, £27 3s 7d. Per Khandallah sub-committee: Mesdames Finlayson, Plimmer, Shaw, Hall, Gibbons, Schieming, Martin, Daniel, Gentry, Dykes, Jack, Devonport, Henderson, Hoby, Inkorsoll, Smith, and Richardson, 5s each; collected in small sums, £5 4s 6d. The pageant, "Famous Children ot History," organised by Mrs. James Hannah on behalf of the Central Committee resulted in a net profit of £274 lbs Id. Mrs Hall welcomed Mrs. T. F. Corkill and Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop as new members of the committee. , Dr T. F. Corkill has consented to become a member of the Advisory Board of the Wellington branch of the society. On 22nd August, Mrs. Hall, Lady Hoskine Mrs. Hunter, and Miss Ward visited N-aio at the invitation of several residents there, who are interested in the work of the society. Mrs. Hall and Lady Hoskin" spoke on the aims and objects ot the work, and a sub-committee was formed with Mrs. Bringans as president and Mrs Jernun as the hon. secretary.
