The waterside workers not only object to Judge Beeby's provision for a second pick-up in tho afternoons, bnfc they contend that the new award imposes heavy penalties for minor breaches and deprives their executive of considerable power. As a matter of fact, 95 per cent, of the Sydney watersiders are satisfied with tho award, but there is considerable dissatisfaction at Melbourne, Brisbane, and other ports where shift work is involved. Although many ports throughout thi Commonwealth were idle yesterday, hundreds of watersiders offered for work in Sydney, and plenty of labour was available for all vessels, no distinction being made regarding the steamers Baradine and Goulburn, which men' refused to work at the previous after* noon's pick-up. By offering in great numbers the men showed objection not to ships or the line to which the ships belonged, but to the whole principle of the afternoon pick-up, Reports from Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, and Fremantle Btat« that no work was done on the waterfront yesterday, the men refusing employ* ment at the morning pick-up. The Comorin, which arrived at Fre* uiantle from London, had to continue her voyage without discharging her cargo.
