DAIRY BOARD

CHAIRMAN IN REPLY SHIPPING CHAKGES i (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, This Day. Further developments arc expected to-day iv connection with the recent controversy on the policy of the Dairy Produco Control Board, which was severely criticised at the Ecx Dale Company's annual meeting, when Mr. J. G. Brechin made the charge against Mr. lorns, the chairman of the board, that he had used his casting vote against, tho acceptance of tlio offer by the Dairy Association to carry out the •shipping of dairy produce at Now Plymouth and Auckland and the South Island for £2000, but for the setting up of the board's own oflices at an estimated cost of over £3000 to carry out tho same work. In reply, Mr. lorus states that the board had been paying far too high a price for tho services rendered in tho past by the Dairy Association. "Mr. lorns forgets that this offer by the association was by way of tender, that it was unanimously accepted by his board, and that the association received letters of appreciation from the board on the manner in which the work was carried out," states Mr. Brechin. "In any case the fact that tho chairman of the board is now of the opinion that the charges were too high does not justify him in using his , casting vote in the direction of throwing away another £1000 or more, on shipping work. This is exactly what Mr. lorns is doing. "Surely the chairman of the board is not inspired by spitefulne-ss towards the Dairy Association because they champion tho cause of the dairy farmers against the actions of the board. "Many matters which Mr. lorus alleged iv his reply to the shipping charges will inspire a fervent prayer from his board to bo saved from its chairman, whili the prayers of the dairy farmers will be that they may be preserved from Mr. lorns and his 'commercialised bobtailed board.'
