INSTITUTE CLUB FUNCTION

The hope that ono day the flub would gain senior status, and that tli« Rugby team would occupy the same position as the Soccer and cricket teams enjoyed, was expressed by Mr. T. A. llislop at the Institute Kugby Football Club's smoke concert last evening. Mr. W. J. Jordan presided over a good attendance. The chairman stated that the past season had been a most successful one so far as the club -was concerned. Each of the three teams had given a good account o!' itself, and he hoped next year they would be able to field a junior team. Presentations were made to the coaches, Messrs. Thomas and M'Nuir. The Institute Kugby Shield for Hie team gaiuing the most championship points was won by the intermediates. The toast list included: "The Wellington Rugby Union," proposed by Mr. 0. A. Holden and responded to Mr. 1. A. Hislop; "The Referees' Association,' proposed by Mr. J. Kussell and responded to by Mr. W. A. Purton; "Institute Committee," proposed by Mr. L. Mills and responded to by Messrs. W. A. Parton and W. I. Gibson; "The Intermediate Coaches," proposed by Mr. C. Burt and responded to by Mr. F. Thomas; "Fifth Grade Coach," proposed by Mr. R. Whitehead and responded to by Mr. K. S. M'Nair; "The Soccer Team," proposed by Mr. 11. S. King and responded to by Mr. C. A. Holden. Entertaining items were given during the evening by Messrs. I). Uremmer, P. Middleton, and C. A. Holden.
