PRINCIPAL OCCUPATIONS. | Out of the-population of the County of London (4,484,523 persons), 3,545,912 , wero 'found"at, the last Census (1921) to be over 12 years of age, states tho "Daily- News." Of these, 2,160,212 were fully engaged in some sort of occupation or other, and an analysis which has just been made of these occupations shows that the people in London engaged in personal service amount to nearly as many as the entire population of Bristol, whilo those engaged in transport and communications exceed the population of Portsmouth. Those concerned with dress and textiles are more than 80,000 in excess of the whole number of people, of all ages, living in Middlesbrough. The following figures show the, numbers of people engaged in the principal occupations in London: — Personal service ............ 356,131 Transport and communication 265,857 Commercial, finance, and insurance (excluding clerks). 225,773 Clerks and draughtsmen (not Civil Service or Local Authority typists) 199,652 Textile goods and dress .... '165,965 Metal workers ...; •...'. 124,236 Professional occupations 97,253 Public administration and_ de- ' fence (excluding professional men and typists) \. 90,093 Wood* and furniture 77,006 Paper, printing, etc 73,669 Warehousemen, storekeepers, and packers 70,011 Foods, drinks, and tobacco .. 46,244 Builders, bricklayers, stone and slate workers, etc .... 45,730 Painters and decorators 37,242 Electrical apparatus and electricians 28,793 Entertainments and sport .... 21,486
