NO POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Referring to the above cablegram today, Mr. J. G. Elliott, M.P. for Oroua, who will have charge, of the London and New Zealand Banlc Bill in Parliament, said the application for a charter for a new bank had absolutely" no political significance. "It is felt," said Mr. Elliott, "that owing to the tremendous increase in. volume of trade in New Zealand there is room for further banking facilities being afforded to thpse engaged in commerce and in primary and secondary industries. There are no unusual features in the Bill to be brought before Parliament, and the provisions are /in accordance with existing banking legislation. It may be mentioned that the promoters embrace commercial men, professional men, and farmers. It is, of course, absurd to suggest that the formation of a new bank can in any way be taken as an indication that the movement, is political in its significance." ■
