WELLINGTON SOCIETY. A SUCCESSFUL YEAR TJie annual mccttng of the Wellington Horticultural koivoty was held in tho, Dominion I'armcis' Institute last evening, Mi. H. A. Fox presiding. Tlio chanman sakl it would be noticed in'tho repoit that practically £60 had been paid out since the last meeting for the plant, and. all the plant was now in excellent condition. Tho amount p.iid out in prize ; money was yppioximately £78, a very satisfactory figure, and there was no reason whyi tho prize money should bo curtailed in any way during tho coming season. Kct' foiling to the state of the rosory at tho Zoo, Mr. Fox said that many of tho roses had becomo worn out, and a committee of the society had dug up tho old loses and substituted fresh plants. This work had been facilitated by tho iinancial assistance of tho Oity Council. Good blooms were expected from the rosciy this year. Mr. Foxmade feeling rofeience to th© loss sustained thiough the death of Mr. J. B. llareourt ; who had been president of tho &ociety for sixteen years. In moving the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, Mr. M. W. Thew said that tho balance-sheet was onb of the best for many years. The finances were in a voiy healthy condition and should be augmented if flno weather favoured the coming Shows. ,\ Mr. L. Sieveis seconded the, motion, oulogismg ~'tho valuable services rendered by the ladies, and tho secretary, Mr. J. G. MacKenzie, whose energy and initiative had done much to build up the success of tho society's affairs. Other mombeis spoke on similar lines. ' . . Tho motion was carried unanimously. Mr. MaeKenzic thanked the membors for . their appreciative references to his work. Ho stressed tho need of co-operation between tho various suburban societies "and said that it was hoped this year to avoid a dashing of tho dates of the different Shows. An interesting address of his recent visit to famous gardens abroad was given by Mr. George Cooper. He was I accorded a hearty vote of thanks. I Mr. James Bell also- addressed the. members, giving details of the apprpved methods of growingVlirysanthemums for exhibition purposes. For his instructive talk he war warmly thanked. The dates for the coming Shows were announced as under: Spring Show, 19th September; Summer Show, 21st November; Autumn Show, 23rd April.
