SYNOPSIS 0F LAST 24 HOURS.

Sinco last evening there has been a gradual rise in pressure, more especially ovet the South Island, and at a a.m. . to-day a weak anticyclone was covering New Zealand. With tho rise, westerly winds changed to southerlics during tho night, but this morning light and variable breezes were reported. Scattered rain fell yesterday and last night, chiefly in western districts, and tho weather was generally somewhat changeable. Conditions, however, have rapidly cleared^ and, except for considerablo foggiiicss in the northernmost districts this morning, it was mostly fair to cloudy.
