SOCIAL WELFARE COUNCIL
At a meeting oJ the Wellington Social Welfare Council, held last evening at the r.M.C.A.. the following officers were appointed:— Preisdeut, the Rev. J. G. W . Gibb; vice-presidents, P. J. O'Kegan, Jas. Henderson; hou.. secretary, R. M. Brasted; Hon. treasurer, C. S. Falconer; cxecu-. tive'Committee, J. Toomer, the i>ev. i'ather Daley, W. A. Andrews, W. J. Jonlon, G. B. Ste'phenson. ■ The objects of the council arc:—(l) Jho co-ordination of their work and the pro vention of overlappin-;; (2) toj -bring to the- attention of the authorities both civic and Dominion any needed action or reform, and to take.concerted measures to secure such action or reform; (3) geneiiuly to promote, support and encourage ad genuine social welfare work in the city and suburbs of Wellington, and m- any other ■ place ■ whete the help of the cotm cil may be sought. It was decided to communicate with ull the social welfare bodies in Wellington not represented at 'ho meeting, bringing before them the desirability of linking up with the council. Last year many of the bodies represented on the council took an active interest in discussing the ChildWelfare Amendment Bill, and as a result decided to form themselves into the.present body. '■
