MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police and summons cases at the Magistrate's Court to-day were dealt with by Mr. E; Page, S.M. . A third offender for drunkenness, Maurice James Murray, aged 57, was fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment.. ■ Bertram Stewart was fined 10s for casting offensive matter. For wilfully damaging a cell tin, valued at 12s 6d, at the Taranaki street Police -Station, Arthur James Horrobin, aged 45, was convicted, and ordered to pay for the damage, in default seven days' imprisonment. He was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. Sing On Tie was fined £4 for failing to close his shop at the proper time. It was stated that the defendant Had been three times previously convicted for similar ' offences. Charles James Fitzgerald was fined £2 for being illegally in the King George Hotel, Christchurch, after hours on 15th January, 1927, and £1 for giv-. ing a false namo and address to a constable. Sub-Inspector Lander said that the defendant, when found in the hotel, gave a name and address which were afterwards found to be false. By the time his correct name and address were ascertained, ho had disappeared, and was only recently located in "Wellington. : Gladys . Duncan, E. Greathead, Frederick Hobsori, avid Bessie Sheargold, iwore each fined £1 for keeping their shops open on Sunday for the sale- of .goods. E. Greathead and Frank Sheargold were convicted and discharged for selling goods on Sunday. Failure to give written notice to the Labour Department of extra time worked by employees cost E. C. Eussell and Co., Ltd., £1. A similar penalty was imposed on a chargo of failing to keep a proper time and wages book. .
